Nick’s working life had its origins within the construction industry, where he enjoyed a successful career as a contracts manager.
In 2000, following a significant family event, Nick made the decision to change his career path completely and entered the field of Social Care. Initially, he worked for a Staffordshire based charity, Arch North Staffs, working at their residential home for young people.
A few months later he became the Deputy Manager of that project which provided support to young people who were leaving the Care of the Local Authority, supporting them making the transition to independent living. Nick worked closely with the Local Authority’s Leaving Care Team and the regulatory authorities to enable the Project to achieve its registered status. The following year Nick was promoted to Registered Care Manager, a role he carried out for the next four years.
In 2007 he took up a new post in a Children’s Home operated by the local Authority as their Registered Care Manager. During his time with this Authority he sat on their Local Authority’s Corporate Parenting Panel and spent some time working with the Social Care’s Direct Access Team. In time, this led to another opportunity. During 2011 Nick enjoyed working with young people and adults with learning disabilities and complex needs.
Over the years, championing the cause of disadvantaged individuals led Nick towards a new horizon – supporting individuals and their families in respect of NHS Continuing Healthcare – by setting up a successful Advocacy Service in 2012.
Through this work, Nick met Anne-Marie and together they set up Health Your Way.
